Construction of the new stormwater ponds make take out at Downriver Park dangerous due to active construction equipment. However, floating the Spokane River from Peaceful Valley to TJ Meenach bridge is still possible during 2023’s construction as long as floaters don’t take out in the active construction zone. Instead, if floaters should plan to exit the river near directly under the TJ Meenach Bridge and walk up the trail to the parking lot. That also means adjusting your parking plans to leave your car at the “upper parking lot”, the one upstream, on the western side of the bridge (see map). Remember not to leave valuables in your car at the take out.
Floating is a fun way to enjoy the Spokane River during lower flows that typically occur from July-August. Just remember, wear a life jacket. Also note that the Spokane River is COLD! Our aquifer keeps the river at about 62 F during the summer so beware of hypothermia on a cooler summer day. If you need to rent tubes or get a shuttle, contact our friends over at FLOW Adventures.
